David B. Cross is the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Atlassian. He brings over 20 years of cybersecurity and engineering leadership experience, with a career that began in the United States Navy’s aviation electronic warfare community, where he specialized in encryption, information protection, and data analysis during five years of active-duty service. David’s military service earned him numerous honors, including the Navy Achievement Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, and NATO Medal for his combat-based tours.
 
David holds a B.S. in Computer Information Systems and an MBA with a concentration in Management Information Systems. Before joining Atlassian, he served as Senior Vice President and CISO for Oracle SaaS Cloud Security engineering and operations, where he led teams delivering secure, compliant cloud services for global enterprises and government customers. His prior roles include building the public Cloud Security Engineering organization at Google as a Director, and 18 years at Microsoft in various security platform, cloud, product, and engineering leadership positions.
 
David is also a Venture Partner with Rain Capital VC, with a successful track record of investments and notable acquisitions, including his seed investment in Twistlock (acquired by Palo Alto Networks). A longtime security IP innovator, he holds 30+ patents and is a contributing author and presenter at numerous cybersecurity conferences, whitepapers, and webinars.
