Magnus Östberg has served as Chief Software Officer of Mercedes‑Benz AG since September 1, 2021, where he assumes overall responsibility for MB.OS, the company’s vehicle operating system. He was born on April 27, 1973, in Sweden. After earning a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, he completed an Executive MBA at the University of Gothenburg in 2006. During his automotive career he held several leadership positions e.g. at Delphi and Aptiv in Germany and the United States, focusing on telematics, vehicle software platforms and systems. As Chief Software Officer at Mercedes‑Benz, he leads the development and implementation of MB.OS, the company’s new software‑centric vehicle architecture. MB.OS separates software from hardware and provides a scalable foundation that enables faster innovation. Under his leadership, Mercedes‑Benz has brought its first true software‑defined vehicle to market. The architecture is deeply connected to the cloud and enables continuous over‑the‑air updates, rapid integration of new digital services, and the deployment of AI‑driven capabilities.
