Gene Liu is Chief Accounting Officer at Atlassian, where he leads global finance operations, accounting, and controllership across a distributed international organization. He oversees public company reporting, quote-to-cash and revenue operations, payroll, international compliance, and finance transformation for a 150+ person team supporting Atlassian’s rapid growth.
During his tenure, the company scaled from roughly $400 million to more than $5 billion in revenue while expanding its workforce globally. Liu has been recognized as Public Company Controller of the Year by the Controllers Council and for Process Innovation by Gartner.
Prior to joining Atlassian, he was a Director in Transaction Services at KPMG, advising global clients on due diligence, IPOs, divestitures, and post-merger integration. He also served as a lecturer at UC Berkeley, teaching MBA courses on turnarounds, crisis leadership, valuation, and change management. Liu holds an MBA from Columbia Business School and an MBA from UC Berkeley Haas School of Business.
