Dr. Matthew Graviss is a seasoned technology and innovation leader with over two decades of experience enhancing national security, public sector modernization, and the adoption of emerging technologies. He currently serves as the Chief Technology Officer at Atlassian’s public sector, where he assists agencies in accelerating mission outcomes through secure, scalable enterprise solutions.
Previously, Dr. Graviss was the Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Officer at the U.S. Department of State, where he led the Department’s inaugural AI strategy, deployed operational AI solutions across diplomatic missions worldwide, and modernized government data practices. His federal service also includes senior leadership roles at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), overseeing critical programs in data management, analytics, systems engineering, and operations.
A recognized thought leader, Dr. Graviss has been honored with FED50, FED100, and Homeland Security Trailblazer awards, and was named to the 2024-2025 AI150 list as a top global executive leading AI transformation efforts. He holds a Ph.D. in Systems Engineering and remains a passionate advocate for leveraging technology to modernize and reshape government, drive operational efficiency, and safeguard our national interests.
